North View Middle School Debuts ‘Tremendous Facelift’
Tuesday was back to school for many local students. At North View Middle School in Brooklyn Park, its students and staff were greeted with a newly renovated second floor.
North View and Brooklyn Middle School, both in the Osseo School Districts, had renovations done this summer as part of a district-wide plan to renovate its schools.
The renovations at North View opened up the second floor, adding glass walls to the classrooms and providing more chairs for flexible learning and collaboration.
The walls and flooring are new, along with an HVAC system to match the lower level.
North View Principal Diana Bledsoe said she went to her school in the 90s and said this was a “tremendous facelift” after all those years.
“Basically, starting at the last day of school last year, they gutted everything and started to build what the kids call a ‘college campus’ for them,” Bledsoe said.
All that’s left at North View is to complete the media center and touch up hallways. Osseo Superintendent Kim Hiel took a tour of the building on Tuesday.
This summer’s project is the first of many within the “Building a Better Future” initiative at Osseo Area Schools. Voters backed the bond-funded project in 2022 and 2023. It involves improvements across the district. Hiel said she’s looking forward to future results, too.
“It’s a huge project, but it’s a beautiful project,” Hiel said. “It’s a legacy that our families who approved it will be able to leave for our kids in the future and beyond.”
Other schools in the district will get their own renovations in the coming years. More information about “Building a Better Future” is available on District 279’s website.
