North Memorial Creates Digital Wall of Heroes
North Memorial Health Hospital has had dozens of donors save lives at its hospital over the years. They memorialize the donors in a “Wall of Heroes” inside the hospital that shows a picture of each hero. The hospital has now upgraded the Wall of Heroes to make it digital so people can learn even more about the donors.
The Wall of Heroes
Christopher Benz, Joseph Miller and Patrick O’Connell might all seem like regular people; but to many they are heroes. For several years, their pictures hung on the donor wall at North Memorial Hospital.
“North Memorial Health was the first hospital to have a wall honoring donors,” says Susan Mau-Larson community relations coordinator for Lifesource. “They had a beautiful wall showing photographs of individuals who had given life, and we decided to transition that to an electronic version.”
New Wall is Interactive
The new electronic wall is interactive. Any picture you click on pulls up a memoir written by the donors’ loved ones.
“This new wall gives families the ability to really show who they were as an individual before they actually did donate,” says Kelly White the Chief Nursing Officer at North Memorial Health.
If family members wanted to view the wall, they had to come in person to the hospital. Now that dedication is available anytime online for them to access.
“Before our old wall you’d actually have to come in to see the picture,” added White. “We’d have kind of an annual remembrance of that individual. Now with this new wall, they can actually look at it virtually. So, we can send the URL to anyone who would want to see it.”
Sharing these heroes’ stories is a responsibility the hospital gladly takes on.
“These individuals at the end of their life gave a very precious gift,” added Mau-Larson. “It’s our responsibility as stewards of those gifts to honor that legacy and share that legacy with others.”
