New Wing at Plymouth Community Center Opens to Public
The Active Wing at the Plymouth Community Center is now open to the public. It includes an indoor playground, a year-round walking track and two full-size gymnasiums.
“This is a very cool facility, it’s been a long time, over 20 years. Plymouth has been waiting for a facility like this. I’m excited, I know all the city staff are excited and proud of what’s here and what the residents will have the ability to use,” said Diane Evans, Plymouth’s parks and recreation director.
What’s inside Active Wing at Plymouth Community Center?
The Active Wing contains an indoor playground, a year-round walking track and two full-size gymnasiums that are available for sports like pickleball and badminton as well as tumbling and preschool programs. This is just the first phase of the renovation and expansion project at the community center that began in the fall of 2020.
Construction has been underway for more than a year.
“We were expecting something pretty nice but this is beyond expectations so it’s very, very nice and it’s very warm,” said Phil and Jackie Rachidel, who were in new space on the first day.
The Plymouth Community Center will be open seven days a week. See hours here.
Phase two includes renovation of the existing building and developing two wings, one wing each for education and for events. Construction on phase two is expected to wrap up this summer.
