New Senior Living Apartment Complex Coming to Maple Grove
A new independent senior living facility is on its way to Maple Grove.
Housing developer and management firm The Doran Group is proposing a four-story, 124-unit senior apartment complex.
It’s planned for construction at 11751 Arbor Lakes Pkwy. N., near the intersection of Hemlock Lane and Elm Creek Boulevard.
The rental units at this building will be restricted to seniors age 55-plus, but the developer expects the average resident to be about 70 years old.
Rent for the apartments will be market-rate.
Amenities will include a fitness room with classes, an entertainment suite, a library, outdoor patio space and a spa.
Evan Doran with The Doran Group said the building was designed with seniors in mind.
“What we’re trying to do with this community is bring a little bit of the outdoors in,” he said. “We’re trying to provide some spaces that, while they’re internal to the building [and] our interior spaces, that kind of provide that four-season porch sort of thing … it’s unlikely that they’re going to be spending a ton of time outdoors at that age point. Though many will and many do.”
The Maple Grove City Council approved the development plans for the project on Aug. 5.
Previously, the Maple Grove Planning Commission voted 5-1 to recommend the project for approval.
Some council members noted that earlier plans for the project included a memory care element.
“It did give me a little heartburn that those memory care units were eliminated,” said Council Member Kristy Janigo. “I understand that there are steeper requirements now for building materials related to folks who maybe can’t get themselves out of the building in case of an emergency. I do think there is a lot of need for market-rate senior housing too.”
