New Hope Village Golf Course Has Earliest Opening Ever
It was the sweet sound of spring on Friday as staff at New Hope Village Golf Course prepared to open for business. Leaf blowers were running, birds chirping and the phone was ringing.
The nine-hole city course opened for business March 1 at noon, its earliest opening ever.
“This is absolutely fantastic. I’ll take this any year,” said golfer Marty Medley.
Medley took the first shot of the season at the New Hope course. She was the first of many.
“Not too often March 1 you’re in a short sleeve shirt,” said facility manager Mark Severson. “I’m sure we’ll see plenty of people out here in shorts this weekend. So very odd.”
Severson said this year is different than most due to the record-warm weather.
“Our record opening was back in the year 2000, it was a leap year as well,” Severson said. “We opened on March 3. We are actually breaking the record by a couple days by opening this early.”
Inside the clubhouse, the calls kept coming Friday and tee times filled up for the weekend.
“It is nice to have a run of days, you know. Three or four days in a row where, actually, it’s good golf weather,” Severson said.
Though the weather is not quite sure what season it is, golfers know it is time to wheel in and tee off.
“You know, just come out, bring your A game, and come out and have some fun,” Severson said.
New Hope staff say the tee times can fill up fast on sunny weekends.
You can call or make an appointment for a tee time online on the New Hope Village Golf Course’s website.
