New Hope Teen Sentenced After Shooting Friend With Ghost Gun
A New Hope teenager has pleaded guilty to a tragic shooting that left another teen dead.
According to court documents, a 17-year-old from New Hope has admitted to fatally shooting 16-year-old Keair Reed in September.
The 17-year-old and Reed were playing with an illegal ghost gun in a New Hope home when Reed was shot in the eye.
The gun had been modified with a binary trigger. That is, the trigger fires one round when the trigger is pulled, and a second round when the trigger is released.
Reed later died in the hospital.
As part of a plea deal, the teen pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter.
He was sentenced to a juvenile corrections program in Red Wing. If he completes the program, the courts will stay a four-year prison sentence.
He will be on supervised probation until his 21st birthday in 2028.
