New Hope K9 Gets New Protective Vest
A New Hope police K9 is getting a much-appreciated present. K9 Dex will be outfitted with a bullet and stab-resistant vest thanks to a donation from Vested Interest in K9s. That’s a national company that funds protective equipment for police dogs.
New Hope officers say they recently experienced the value of these vests first hand with their other dog.
“K9 Cody had apprehended a suspect inside a building that was holding hostages at knife point,” said Captain Scott Slawson. “The dog ended up getting attacked by the suspect with the knife, and the vest took a lot of damage from the knife and protected the dog.”
Dex’s new vest will be embroidered with a tribute to a Duluth K9, who died last year after being shot by a domestic assault suspect.
