New Hope City Hall Demolition Begins
After serving the city of New Hope for more than 50 years, demolition crews started tearing down the old city hall building. The new city hall has been in operation since last month and the first city council meeting is scheduled there for Monday night.
“This is the most exciting thing that has happened in New Hope in many years,” said Mayor Kathi Hemken. She took a ceremonial first dig at the building on Monday morning. “We’ve been looking forward to this for about 10 years now. The new building is done. We’ve got some outside stuff to do, but we’ve moved in. As soon as we move in, we’re starting to tear down the old. So, we started with this end with the police department and we’ll work our way through.”
Demolition should be wrapped up by the end of the week.
Then, a new swimming pool will be built on the property and should be finished by next summer.
