New Hope Allows Free-Standing Solar
After a company called Smartflower of Minnesota approached the city of New Hope about installing a free-standing solar energy system at their Bass Lake Road office, the city took a closer look at amending their solar energy ordinance. The previous ordinance only allowed for solar panels on buildings.
The New Hope City Council voted this week to amend the ordinance and allow free standing solar in commercial and industrial districts as long as they don’t cast a glare in public rights of way. Smartflower says they will put up a model as soon as the proper permits go through, which should be sometime this summer.
