New Elementary School Taking Shape in Plymouth
Construction continues on the new North Woods Elementary School in Plymouth. The K-5 school in the Wayzata District will open to around 500 students in the fall of 2019. It will have the capacity to teach 900 students, as the district and the northwest part of Plymouth continue to grow.
“I think it’s just going to be a great building,” said Principal Jenny Berg. “We’re really looking forward to it.”
“Growing by leaps and bounds”
North Woods will be the ninth elementary school in the Wayzata District.
“We are growing by leaps and bounds,” Berg said. “Many of our sister schools are feeling the crunch of being overpopulated. This is school will alleviate some of that growth.”
Some of that growth is right across the street. A new housing development is popping up and will someday supply students to North Woods.
North Woods will resemble Meadow Ridge Elementary, which opened in 2016.
“This will be the mirror image of that school,” Berg said. “I think they were very pleased with the floor plan and how that school developed.”
In the coming weeks, school officials are going to choose an animal nickname and mascot. They will get input from kids who are going to North Woods.
