Mound Cemetery Remembers Vets One Flag at a Time
Mound Cemetery in Brooklyn Center is one of the oldest cemeteries in the northwest metro. Every year, volunteers from the Brooklyn Center American Legion put out flags on gravestones of veterans.
“It’s part of the respect for the guys that make this country free,” says Len Jacobsson, from the Brooklyn Center American Legion. “That’s the bottom line.”
Jacobsson organizes volunteers who places flags by the headstones of veterans ahead of the Memorial Day ceremonies. It’s a lengthy process. The cemetery has veterans from wars going back to the Civil War and the Spanish-American War.
Volunteers put out more than 100 flags.
