Mobile Petting Zoo Featured at Duk Duk Daze
Happy Tails Mobile Petting Zoo has been sharing their animals with the Twin Cities since 2016. The Black family started their herd with just a couple of goats, but the herd kept growing. The Black family didn’t realize just how many farm animals needed a home.
“Probably half of our animals are rescues,” says Jody Black, co-owner of St. Paul-based Happy Tails Mobile Petting Zoo. “They know they’ve got a good home and they are probably the nicest animals you could ever encounter.”
Started as a Sanctuary
The Blacks had a love for animals and wanted to save as many as possible. So, they started a sanctuary. The family realized that other people loved seeing their animals, so they started their a business.
“It’s the only job I know in the whole wide world where you make everybody happy,” added Davis. “You make the animals just as happy as the people petting them.”
The couple both still work full-time. They hope to one day to turn the petting zoo into their full-time job. They still get calls regularly from people asking them to take in new animals. They still take in as many animals as they can. They say, their love for livestock is something they love sharing with the Twin Cities.
“We started with two goats and now we have and now we have a total of 80 animals,” said Davis. “It’s taken three years and it’s a lot of work when you’re working full time.”
