Miss Minnesota USA Sarah Anderson, of Maple Grove, Readies for National Competition
Sarah Anderson, a 2021 graduate of Maple Grove High School, was crowned Miss Minnesota USA on Sunday, July 30, in Burnsville.
“It was an incredible feeling. I was thrilled to know that I had stood up on stage with so many friends and such amazing women over the weekend,” said Anderson during an interview at the CCX studios. “I came out of the weekend with really great friends and such a supportive system up there on stage. It’s really amazing to be standing with such passionate women.”
Anderson, who is a junior at Minnesota State University in Mankato, also competed for two years previously in the Miss Minnesota Teen USA program before moving up to Miss Minnesota USA this year.
“I’ve learned a lot about myself and I’ve learned a lot about other women and what I’m capable of, as well,” Anderson said. “I feel stronger and I’m surrounded by women I want to be like, and I’m pushing myself and it’s motivational.”
One of the programs Anderson is most involved in is Girls on the Run, which works with third- through fifth-grade girls on running and empowerment through physical fitness.
“We teach them all about understanding themselves and being confident in themselves, and honesty–being kind to one another, being a team player, and life skills like that,” she said.
She’ll take some time off from her modeling job to focus on her duties as the reigning title holder in the state, as well as get ready for the Miss USA pageant in Reno, Nevada in September.
“The next month or so I’ll be preparing and making as many appearances as I possibly can to work on my public speaking skills,” she said.
