MGSH Grads Sign Tech Letters of Intent
Maple Grove Senior High held a signing day for students who plan to pursue a field in technical education. Students signed letters to attend local colleges to become electricians, engineers, and much more.
“I believe these kids often fall through the cracks,” said Michael Vecellio, college and career specialist at Maple Grove Senior High. “No one recognizes the value of their choice, their post secondary choice, perhaps other than their parents. We need to do more as a high school community and society to recognize the valuable choice, often non-traditional that these students are making.”
Future students mentioned a faster career path with little to no college debt attracted them to a technical education.
“I did electrical as a kid with my dad a little bit,” said Sam Quiroz, who aspires to be an electrician. “I worked with him installing fixtures and I thought it was interesting so I jumped into it.”
Other students mentioned a hands-on education as a reason behind the career choice.
“I’m going to Hennepin Tech for their fluid power engineering program,” said Matt Savage, who aspires to be a fluid power engineer. “That’s what I’ve wanted to do ever since I was in robotics.”
