Maranatha Christian Academy Blood Drive
With the holidays around the corner, the need for blood donation increases. On Wednesday, Maranatha Christian Academy held a blood drive for Memorial Blood Centers.
“I want to save lives, and it’s healthy for you to give out some blood every year,” said student Harry Xue.
Students, staff, and parents at Maranatha rolled up their sleeves to donate. According to Memorial Blood Centers, every two seconds, someone needs blood. We talked with one parent who gave in honor of a loved one who passed away.
“My sister-in-law, Gwynn, had three types of cancers throughout her life. She had her first bout with leukemia at age 5, and she’s had probably over 300 transfusions in the course of her life. So, I know the importance of it,” said parent Mary Thayer. “I’m happy I can donate and give it to some people who need it.”
Last year, Maranatha donated 94 units of blood throughout two blood drives. They hope to beat that number this time around.
