Maple Grove Woman Struck, Killed by Car ID’d
Authorities have identified a Maple Grove woman who was struck by a car in downtown Minneapolis and later died.
Yvonne Palka was walking with her husband, Johnny Palka, in Minneapolis’ Warehouse District when she was hit by a car on Saturday, Nov. 9. She died three weeks later.
Police said the Palkas were walking in a non-marked crosswalk when she was hit. The investigation into the incident continues, but police said the driver remained on the scene and showed no signs of impairment.
Palka was an acclaimed artist and children’s book author. At the time of her passing, she was working on a children’s book about dragons, a project she launched at the request of local school children, her obituary said.
A celebration of her life will take place on Dec. 28 at 10 a.m. at Maple Grove Lutheran Church. Yyonne Palka was 81 years old.
