Maple Grove Travel Agency Says Travelers Have Coronavirus Concerns
Maple Grove travel agent Ann Martin says in her 30 years working in the travel industry, she doesn’t remember anything quite like the reaction from the novel coronavirus. She says she has had clients cancel plans because of it.
“People have vacations planned and they don’t know what to do,” Martin said. “They’re confused. A lot of inquiries.”
Martin works for the The Travel Source. She remembers SARS, H1N1 and ebola, but according to Martin, those illness scares don’t compare to the reaction caused by the novel coronavirus, or COVID-19.
“Not this bad, no, no,” Martin said. “This one seems a little crazier.”
The COVID-19 outbreak has many people rethinking their travel plans. Martin believes that things aren’t as bad as they appear, but admits when a luxury liner is stuck off the California coast, the optics don’t look good for the cruise industry.
“Could that be me? Could I be stuck for 14 days? That’s the biggest thing is the quarantines on the cruise ships right now. Those are the biggest concern for sure,” she said.
Martin says there are no warnings in the Caribbean or Mexico due to coronavirus.
