Maple Grove Teenager Sings in National Competition
Lainey Donoghue got her start singing karaoke at the Minnesota State Fair and is now singing in the PBS National Celebration of Music contest.
Donoghue is one of 19 Minneapolis finalists in a national singing competition.
Singing for the World
Every since Lainey Donoghue was a little girl, she’s wanted to share her talents with the world.
“Every single time I’m singing I get a burst of energy and a burst of positive like happiness inside of me, and that’s how I know what I want to do when I’m older,” explained Lainey.
And just like her favorite song, “Titanium,” she has a strong voice.
The 10th grader got her start singing karaoke at the Minnesota State Fair when she was five years old.
“I was not nervous at all,” remembers Lainey. “I just went for it with the microphone, and I’ve done the karaoke there every year since.”
Now she’s competing on a bigger stage, the PBS National Celebration of Music Contest. The competition kicks off May 9th. If Lainey gets the most votes, she gets to go to Los Angeles in October and be on the PBS Celebration of Music show.
