Maple Grove Senior Paige Thompson Wins Scholarship
Maple Grove High School senior Paige Thompson was recently awarded a $10,000 STEM scholarship from Alliantgroup. Thompson says studying science has almost been an obsession she’s had since middle school.
“I got so obsessed with the human body that I wrote composition notebooks full of drawings of like, the heart and what the heart does, and functions, and just all the systems. It was a healthy obsession for sure,” said Thompson.
Thompson’s dad suggested she apply for the scholarship, but Thompson was skeptical.
She didn’t have to be. Paige Thompson was one of 15 winners nationwide and the only recipient from Minnesota to win.
“Am I really going to win this? There’s no way I’m going to win this. So when I did win this I was very surprised,” said Thompson.
“Paige was different because she talked a lot about what drew her to STEM. Her fascination with biology, how the human body is a puzzle,
said said Alliantgroup’s Corporate Citizenship Director, Casey Curry. “Then, to hear about all of her volunteer hours at the Children’s Hospital really set her apart.”
Thompson hasn’t waited to start her post-high school degree. She’s been taking classes exclusively at North Hennepin Community College through the PSEO program now for the past two years. She plans to attend the University of St. Thomas and major in biochemistry.
