Maple Grove Police and Fire Personnel Honored
The I-94 West Chamber of Commerce saluted EMS personnel, firefighters and police on Wednesday at the First Responders luncheon in Rogers.
The people honored expect the unexpected.
“You don’t really know because the call can come at any time,” said Maple Grove firefighter Chad Van Curler. “You gotta go. Sometimes it’s between dinner or birthday partys or holidays. But that’s what we sign up for.”
Several honored
The I-94 West group gave out 16 special awards to first responders from eight cities, including Maple Grove. They were chosen for their devotion and service to their profession.
Van Curler received recognition for his heroic efforts in April. He remembers the event happened on Good Friday at Sam’s Club in Maple Grove.
“I saw a man go down in the parking lot,” remembers Van Curler. “I started administrating CPR and waited for police to show up. Got the AD out, got him in the back. Got him in the ambulance and transported him.”
The I-94 West cities represented were Albertville, Buffalo, Corcoran, Dayton, Elk River, Maple Grove, Rogers and St. Michael.
