Maple Grove Lutheran Church Offers Drive-Through Ashes
Too busy to go to church for Ash Wednesday? Maple Grove Lutheran Church offered ashes and a prayer in a drive-through service Wednesday. It’s the eighth year they have done it and organizers say cars were lined up when they started.
Rev. Christine Chiles stood in the parking lot of Maple Grove Lutheran church that’s at the crossroads of Elm Creek Boulevard and County Road 30. She administered ashes and said a prayer as people stayed in their cars.
People mentioned they couldn’t get out of the office to attend church or that they’d had a tough year, after losing a loved one or battling cancer.
“It’s surprising how meaningful this connection can be to people,” said Rev. Chiles. “Sometimes they haven’t been to church in awhile. It kind of brings them back into that relationship and that connection of faith again.”
Nearly a dozen vehicles lined up when the pastors started the drive-through service. Rev. Chiles said it was one of the busiest starts ever.
