Maple Grove Lions Donate $25K for New Police Badges
A donation from a local nonprofit is helping the Maple Grove Police Department adopt a new look.
The Maple Grove Lions Club donated $25,000 to the police department to help buy new badges and patches for department uniforms.
“We believe that these are important symbols of our agency that represent the safety of our community and also represent the city,” said Maple Grove Police Chief Eric Werner as the Lions presented the donation at Monday’s city council meeting. “And we believe that it will be a decades-long representation of who we are and the values we have as an organization.”
The patches and badges were redesigned over the past year. It’s the forth time the police department has redesigned its look.
The new patches feature the city’s maple leaf logo, while the badge is based on the first one worn by the city’s constables in 1954.
In total, the cost to replace the department’s patches and badges is about $42,000.
