Maple Grove Lawmaker To Head New House Anti-Fraud Committee
Amid the chaotic start to the legislative session at the state Capitol, a Maple Grove lawmaker is heading a new committee in the Minnesota House of Representatives that aims to root out fraud.
Rep. Kristin Robbins, R-Maple Grove, has been named chair of the Fraud Prevention and State Agency Oversight Policy Committee.
The creation of the new committee is being created in the wake of the massive Feeding Our Future fraud scandal.
Perpetrators of the fraud stole about $250 million in what became the nation’s largest pandemic fraud case.
House Republicans say ending fraud is one of their top priorities during this legislative session.
“As we’ve seen over the last many years, there’s been a lot of fraud and misuse of taxpayer funds in the state of Minnesota,” Robbins said. “And the legislature has never had a vehicle for oversight. So I really think this is a separation of powers issue and I hope it will be bipartisan.”
Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz recently signed an executive order creating a new Financial Crimes and Fraud section in the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.
He’s also asked lawmakers to consider a $39 million anti-fraud proposal.
