Maple Grove Hy-Vee Opens Oct. 15th | Sneak Peek
Maple Grove Hy-Vee Grand Opening October 15th
Maple Grove residents in the southwest part of the city won’t have to travel as far to buy groceries. A new Hy-Vee store opens Tuesday at Bass Lake Road and County Road 101. Hy-Vee CEO Randy Edeker says there are features in the Maple Grove location that you won’t be able to find at any other Hy-Vee stores.
“It’s all about following customer lifestyle,” Edeker said. “We like to try things and see if they work. If they don’t work, we move on and try other things.”
The 98,000 sq. ft. Hy-Vee features a large open dining area for fast-casual dining with a full-service bar. It also features Basin, an all-natural beauty brand of bath and body products.
“A few of the new ones is a housewares department that is just awesome,” said Jack Stortenbecker, the Maple Grove Hy-Vee director. “We have a table with chairs where we can see what it looks like in your own home, sit down at the table and actually try it out.”
Stortenbecker anticipates Hy-Vee customers will be excited about the candy department. “We got a coin-operated unicorn ride over there and all this candy you’ve never seen before, just really neat stuff.”
More than 300 people have already been hired to work at the Maple Grove Hy-Vee location. That includes 100 full-time positions. The store is looking to staff about 500 in total. Stortenbecker says opening day will be busy.
“Long long hours, we’ve been here early and late, cleaning like crazy, just making sure everything in the building is absolutely perfect,” he said. “Maple Grove is about as hot of an area as to be in the cities.”
Currently, there are 12 Hy-Vee stores in the Twin Cities.
