Maple Grove Family Creates Outdoor Ice ‘Skatium’
Bryce Ferguson converted a tennis court into an impressive outdoor ice rink, complete with flags, boards and even a lawnmower converted into a Zamboni.
Ferguson had an outdoor rink growing up and would spend a lot of time on it.
“You couldn’t get me in for dinner,” said Ferguson.
Ferguson says after online learning, they get out to the rink to start skating outside.
“Some kids have to wait for practice, but I can go out and skate anytime I want,” said Campbell Ferguson.
The rink is 120 feet by 60 feet and has outdoor lights for nighttime skating too. Because of restrictions on indoor rinks and a delay prompted by weather on city-owned outdoor rinks, this winter was the perfect time to have a backyard rink.
And Ferguson says the young skaters, who are members of Osseo-Maple Grove Hockey Association, can work on hockey and skating skills while having fun too.
