Maple Grove Couple Aspires to Open Esports Arena
A Maple Grove couple wants to bring people together through gaming.
Marcus Erickson is trying to raise at least $50,000 to open an Esport arena in Minneapolis. He’s doing that through a crowdfunding campaign.
The business would be called GameBox Cafe. It would feature state-of-the-art gaming stations, including 30 seats for gamers, stadium seating and large screens.
The couple says the place would be used for both tournaments and casual gaming.
“Some people think of gaming as ‘its just gaming, big deal’. But it’s not, it brings people together,” Erickson said. “It’s a center for the community not just entertainment venue; I want it to be something bigger than that.”
Erickson said none of the gaming places in the Twin Cities have an arena-style format.
