Maple Grove Author Sarah Hanley Pens Historical Novel
A Maple Grove author is keeping her grandmother’s story alive. Sarah Hanley spent two years writing a historical novel titled “Matka,” which means mother in Polish.
Hanley’s book is based on her grandmother’s hardships and separations of families during and after World War II.
“It talks about how we all have that immigrant background and our families could have been here hundreds of years but there’s still that experience, and often a traumatic one,” explained Hanley.
Both her grandparents passed away in 1998 after suffering from Alzheimer’s.
Hanley will donate a portion of the sales of her book to the Alzheimer’s Association.
