Maple Grove Adding 18 Pickleball Courts to Lakeview Knolls Park
Pickleball fans in Maple Grove will soon have another place to play.
Work is underway at Lakeview Knolls Park to add 18 courts.
Ben Jaszewski, superintendent of parks and planning at Maple Grove, said the parks department was seeing a high demand for pickleball. There was also heavy traffic at existing courts.
“We are really looking to expand and build a site that could facilitate and house more players. But also potential for leagues and tournaments, and some recreational programming,” Jaszewski said.
Construction started on July 24 at Lakeview Knolls Park. Crews are currently demolishing a softball field and six existing courts along 93rd Street.
Jaszewski said construction is expected to go quickly. The courts will be ready by October.
The project will also include a picnic shelter and bathrooms. Jaszewski said that piece of the project will not be complete until December, but the courts will be accessible before then.
Jaszewski also said the playground near the courts will be redone at the end of August. That work will be complete in late September.
