Man Charged in Brooklyn Park Armed Robbery
A Minneapolis man is accused of robbing a woman at gunpoint in a Brooklyn Park gas station parking lot after waving at her and saying he “knew her,” according to newly filed charges.
Hassan Ali, 20, is charged with first-degree aggravated robbery and prohibited possession of a firearm due to a previous felony conviction.
According to the criminal complaint:
Ali waved at the victim at a stop light on June 17 and told her he “knew her.” The victim then pulled over at the Winner Gas Station parking lot.
The suspect went into the gas station, then returned and entered the woman’s vehicle on the front passenger side. Once inside the vehicle, he displayed a handgun and demanded money and credit cards.
Ali also took a photo of the woman’s driver’s license and told her “unless he got more money by the end of the night he would show up to her house and shoot her,” the charging document read.
Police arrested Ali as he tried to run away. A Brooklyn Park officer also observed Ali drop a handgun, which was recovered at the scene.
Court records show Ali was prohibited from possessing a firearm due to first-degree aggravated robbery committed as a juvenile in a July 2020 case. Ali also has two pending cases of fleeing police in a motor vehicle.
Ali is next set to appear in court on July 22.
