Longtime Almsted’s Store Manager Retires, Employees Give Him Day to Remember
After 21 years, store manager Roger Olson is sun-setting his grocery store career at Almsted’s Fresh Market in Crystal. To bid him farewell, his team put together an informal daytime social for him.
“It’s extremely emotional, normally I’m not an emotional person, but you know when you realize it’s the last day, it’s really difficult,” Olson said.
His going-away celebration was complete with a decorative table display with a personalized card, photos and cake to commemorate his many years working at the store. His social gave him the chance to connect with long-time customers and colleagues as well.
Olson said retiring wasn’t an easy decision for him but the grocery business has changed and he wants to spend more time with his wife at home.
Those who worked with him say he’s going to be missed. Many say Olson is like family and has impacted their lives so much.
“Roger has been my backbone,” said Lauren Pacey, who has been working at Almsted’s for more than seven years. Her father was also a former employee.
“He’s been just the best mentor and somebody I’ve looked up to my whole life and somebody I still respect and love every single day,” she said.
