Local Schools Receive Snack Boxes to Address Food Insecurity
Hennepin County and a local community group teamed up to deliver snacks to Brooklyn Park and Brooklyn Center students on Friday. CCX News caught up with Hennepin County Commissioner Jeff Lunde and volunteers with Friends of Brookdale Library, who delivered snack boxes to Fair Oaks Elementary in Brooklyn Park.
The library group received a $15,000 food insecurity grant from the county to provide nutrition to schools. Officials say food insecurity has increased during the pandemic.
“Kids look to the school to help provide support and parents do as well. So, when we work in tandem in partnership with our families, we make sure the kids get what they need,” said Fair Oaks Principal Sara Looby-Morris.
The boxes contain granola bars, graham crackers and healthy snacks. Volunteers handed out about 260 cases of food to 15 different schools in the area.
