Latter Day Saint Churches Donate 25,000 Pounds of Food to New Hope Food Shelf
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints has made a sizable contribution to the Food Group in New Hope. The drive involved 34 LDS churches and has been ongoing since last year.
“It just provided a great opportunity for people to give personally, to get out and provide food and donations and service of time in ways that are fun and joyful with others. And to help those who are really in need,” said Paul Wilson, president of the Anoka Stake.
The drive collected more than 25,000 pounds of food. Specific items were requested like vegetable oil, spices and flour. The LDS volunteers collected the food. Then volunteers brought all the items to The Food Group in New Hope where they were sorted and repackaged for distribution.
“It’s an amazing partnership. They filled 127 blue barrels. So it’s over 25,000 pounds of food which really makes a huge impact,” said Sophia Lenarz-Coy, with The Food Group.
