UPDATE: Carjacking Leads to Rollover Crash in Plymouth
A carjacking and police chase in Minneapolis led to a rollover crash in a residential Plymouth neighborhood on May 15.
The scene brought a large police response and wrecked, stolen car to an otherwise quiet neighborhood near Medicine Lake.
According to the Minneapolis Police Department, officers responded to a carjacking near 26th Avenue North and Vincent Avenue North.
Police located the suspect, who fled the scene in the stolen vehicle.
Police gave chase, while the driver headed into Brooklyn Center.
Officers lost sight of the vehicle near Highway 100 and 57th Avenue North and ended the chase.
The suspect later ended up in Plymouth, crashing the vehicle on 26th Avenue between Nathan and Lancaster lanes.
Police blocked off the roadway as they investigated the incident.
Witnesses told CCX News the vehicle hit a berm at a high rate of speed and rolled over in a residential yard.
“What I heard is this loud noise and then I saw this car speed by,” said witness Ginny Johnson, who was looking out her kitchen window at the time of the incident. “And then it crashed into the barrier over across the street and I saw the car rollover. And it just scared the daylights out of me because it was so fast.”
Police arrested one adult male at the scene of the crash. He was hospitalized, and will be booked in the Hennepin County Jail upon his release.
“I was sitting around and all of the sudden I hear the sirens, and I was like ‘what’s going on?'” said witness Kayana Benham. “And then there’s this big crash. And the car came right down the road … and it rolled. It sounded similar to someone running into the side of the house pretty much. And that’s when all the cop cars showed up and they pulled the guy out of the car.”
A third witness showed CCX News Ring camera footage with police following the vehicle prior to the rollover.
