Lack of Snow Means More Indoor Pool Time for Kids on Break
When the schools close for winter break, families often search for a place to help their kids get the wiggles out. In Maple Grove, community center leaders say they’re ready for the rush.
Angie Dehn, a manager at the Maple Grove Community Center, said this isn’t their busiest season– but any time school is out, traffic goes up.
“The pool year-round is a hot commodity. Definitely during non-school days and winter breaks you will see a lot more people in this area than you would on your regular Monday and Tuesday,” Dehn said.
Dehn said the lack of snow fun outdoors could contribute to the winter rush.
“We have increased staff. The water slide is open more, we have the volleyball nets down. Things for everybody to do,” Dehn said.
Three kids, Everett, Jude and Phoebe were already taking advantage of the space on Wednesday.
“It’s our first day of Christmas break,” Jude said.
“It’s fun swimming!” Everett chimed in.
“Outside and inside!” Phoebe said.
The outdoor portion is closed during the winter, but the Grove Cove’s indoor portion has a lap pool, water slide and leisure pool. The kids said the water slide is their favorite part.
“My mom said we should go to Florida every winter, but we should just come here every winter. It’s better than Florida, I would say,” Jude said.
If water parks aren’t in the plans, Dehn said the community center has other options.
“We also have an indoor playground, we have a gymnasium with basketball hoops and balls, we have open skate that we offer,” Dehn said. “There’s a little bit for everybody.”
Days and hours are available on Maple Grove’s website.
Some other options in the region include the Brookview Backyard indoor playground in Golden Valley and the weekend-only Venetian Indoor Waterpark in Maple Grove.
