Kimberly Lane Elementary Named Blue Ribbon School
Kimberly Lane Elementary school in Plymouth is one of about 300 schools to be named a National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education. Eight schools in Minnesota received the honor for academic performance or progress in closing racial achievement gaps.
“This is just a sincere honor to be recognized by someone outside our school community and at a national level,” said Kari Wehrmann, principal.
The school earned the award in the category “Exemplary High-Performing Schools.” This is the second time Kimberly Lane has received the honor. The last time was in 2007. Wayzata Schools counts 11 schools who have been recognized with this prestigious award.
Wehrmann says the award is a testament to the people in the school.
“Obviously the teachers, it’s the students, it’s the families, it’s our culinary staff, it’s our custodial staff, it’s our bus drivers, it is everyone that had to come together to make this happen,” said Wehrmann. “We have just been so fortunate that we have such a supportive community and people who collaborate with each other and make it great place for students to learn and teachers to teach.”
Wehrmann and second grade teacher Greta Cender will attend a ceremony honoring Kimberly Lane in November in Washington D.C.
