Juneteenth Celebrations Begin Metro-Wide
Several area cities are planning Juneteenth celebrations this weekend.
CCX News caught up with people setting up for Brooklyn Park’s celebration planned at North Hennepin Community College Friday.
“Really the event is a kid-friendly environment,” explained Marcus Hill, Parks and Facilities Manger in Brooklyn Park. “We’re really just looking for the community to come out and have a good time.”
“It is the day that is the truest form of freedom in America, for all, not just for some,” said Racial Equity Diversity & Inclusion Manager Davis.
“I’m born and raised in Brooklyn Park,” said Clint “Scooter” Draughn, with the organization Honored 2 Help. “For 34 years, I’ve been here. I’ve noticed there’s a lot of love and diversity and what better way to show it than at a Juneteenth celebration.
Brooklyn Center will be observing their first Juneteenth celebration with events starting on 11 a.m. Saturday at Centennial Park.
Maple Grove is also celebrating their first Juneteenth on Sunday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Central Park.
