It’s Time for Sweet Corn in Brooklyn Park
Sweet corn grown in Brooklyn Park went up for sale on Monday at the Fresh Pickins farm stand on 109th Avenue North. The prices have increased slightly to offset the increased cost of fertilizer, fuel and labor.
“It’s been a challenge, but we are here and we have an excellent crop,” said Bert Bouwman, the farmer who also produces the annual corn maze. “This crop is looking phenomenal.”
Bouwman says as soon as the open sign was up, people drove in ‘like the horse heading back to the barn.’
Bouwman’s company Fresh Pickin’s plans to have corn at the Crystal stand by Thursday and also at stands in Chanhassen and St. Michael this week.
Besides corn, Bouwman offers new potatoes, zucchini, peppers, and more. You can follow the progress of the farm and the stand on his website, Fresh Pickin’s.
