Is This Recyclable? Brooklyn Park Has An App for That
Tens of thousands of residents across three cities in the northwest suburbs have access to an app that can help answer just about any questions they may have about recycling.
The app, put out by the city of Brooklyn Park, allows customers to find out what day their curbside pickup is, what items they can recycle — versus put into garbage or even transport to a pickup site like a grocery store for plastic bags or other county sites — and even request a new bin or other service.
“The searchable database allows you to type in what you’ve got, get that answer, without having to rely on me being in my office, waiting by my phone for your call,” said Tim Pratt, recycling manager for Brooklyn Park. “You can do it on your time.”
Brooklyn Park also supplies the trucks for pickup routes in Crystal and New Hope. The three cities in the Hennepin Recycling Group have 44,000 households.
Pratt said since the city introduced the app in April 2020, it’s been downloaded 6,000 times.
It is free to download.
