Interfaith Outreach Volunteer Reflects on Sleep Out
A dedicated and very passionate volunteer for Interfaith Outreach is celebrating a milestone.
“Interfaith Outreach has prevented homelessness 33,262 times or something like that in the 24 years that we’ve had a sleep out,” said Bob Fisher.
He helped start the annual Interfaith Outreach Sleep Out 24 years ago. So far, it’s raised almost $33 million. In the beginning, Fisher says the goal was to raise awareness about homelessness and affordable housing issues in the suburbs.
“They don’t sleep under bridges like some people think, and they’re not drunks walking up and down the streets or whatever, and mental illness, you think of all these kind of negative stereotypes with homelessness, these are just hard-working people that can’t make ends meet,” Fisher explained.
