Hopkins School Board Looks to Name New Superintendent This Spring
The Hopkins School Board hopes to have a new superintendent named this spring.
Current Superintendent Rhoda Mhiripiri-Reed announced in December 2025 that she’s not renewing her contract and will wrap up her duties this June.
“This is not a retirement or a step away from purpose,” she wrote in a letter to district families. “Instead, it is an intentional choice to explore the many meaningful things I hope to do in the next chapter of my life. After nine years in this role, I feel it is time to pass the torch of leadership.”
As a result, the board is working with the Minnesota School Boards Association to search for a new superintendent.
The deadline for applicants is March 29.
The board expects to announce semifinalists by April 7, with a lone finalist selected on April 20.
Contract discussions should come to a close by May 5, and the new superintendent would begin duties on July 1, according to a district timeline.
Community members can provide feedback to the board through an anonymous web-based or paper survey. It’s open through March 15.
Several events are also scheduled to give community members a chance to weigh in. Dates and locations for meetings are as follows:
- An in-person community focus group will be hosted from 6:30-7:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 11 in the Eisenhower Community Center. There’s also virtual Zoom sessions from 6:30-7:30 p.m., Monday, March 9; and from 10-11 a.m., Thursday, March 12.
- Students can provide input from 9:57-10:57 a.m. on Tuesday, March 10 and Wednesday, March 11.
- Teachers have two virtual feedback sessions from 7:30-8:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 10; and from 3:30-4:30 p.m., Thursday, March 12.
The Hopkins School District includes about two-thirds of the city of Minnetonka, about half of the city of Golden Valley, and smaller portions of St. Louis Park, Edina, Plymouth and Eden Prairie.
Nearly 7,000 students attend the district.
