Robbinsdale Becoming More ADA Compliant
Hennepin County crews are working to replace and upgrade the sidewalks along County Road 81. The project is part of the county’s American Disability Act Sidewalk Accessibility Plan. Construction starts in Robbinsdale at 40th Avenue and does down to 42nd Avenue. The project also includes a lane closure.
“We’ll be removing some of this concrete here and putting in new ADA accessible ramps that help people cross, particularly people who are in wheelchairs or who have mobility issues,” explained Colin Cox Hennepin County Transportation Spokesperson.
Crews are also updating the crosswalk timing button, so people who are visually impaired can hear the commands when crossing the road. Hennepin County officials say it’s all about making sure everyone has adequate access.
“The pedestrian ramp project is ongoing,” said Cox. “We have a number of intersections we’re doing this all across the county. “In terms of the signal, that was a resident request. Somebody came in and asked us if we could update this signal.”
The project has a short timeline. The construction should wrap up in a week.
Meanwhile, Robbinsdale drivers should slow down in the area during construction.
