High School Debate Coach Appointed to Robbinsdale School Board
The Robbinsdale Area School Board has a new member.
Richard Brynteson, who goes by the first name DJ, was appointed on Nov. 20 to fill the vacant board seat previously held by Kim Holmes. Brynteson has spent 20 years as a debate coach in the district.
Holmes resigned in October, calling the board a “traumatic environment.”
Brynteson was one of 17 people to apply for the open seat.
Their applications were scored blindly by the other board members.
The top four applicants were interviewed Nov. 20. Those four were Brynteson, Brian Hanf, Cheryl Holm-Hansen and Lennie Kaufman.
CCX News has interviewed Brynteson multiple times in his role as a debate coach.
He was originally the coach at Cooper High School and oversees the program since it merged with Armstrong.
Brynteson will take office on Jan. 5, 2026, and will serve the balance of Holmes’ term, which runs through December 2026.
