Hennepin Technical College Hosts Black History Month Program Feb. 18
In honor of Black History Month, Hennepin Technical College will have graduates share their personal stories with the goal of lifting up others during the Black Rising in MN Workforce event.
Five black alumni from Hennepin Tech will discuss their academic and career journeys during a Zoom event Thursday. All of them landed in higher-wage and in-demand technical careers. They believe others can have those opportunities too.
“Some stats and data indicate that everyone is more likely to pursue a career if they are exposed to it at some point in life and if they can picture themselves in that career. I want to bring that to my local community and say ‘hey, don’t limit yourself to only one type of career because you don’t see yourself in that career’,” said Jason Jones, the Perkins and Pathways Coordinator.
Hennepin Tech is one of the most diverse college campuses in the state. More than 98% of Hennepin Tech students report they have received a position in their career when they graduate.
Recently, the college was recognized for granting a high number of associate degrees to students of color.
The Blacks Rising in MN Workforce event is scheduled February 18th @ 12-1 p.m. Sign up here.
