Hennepin Tech Student in Spotlight
Nyphen Sanders is one of only 10 students in the U.S. and Canada to be chosen for the Cisco Live Dream Team. The Hennepin Tech student is passionate about cybersecurity and hopes his work on this special team inspires others to stop hackers from stealing personal information.
“I want to stop these hackers,” explains Sanders. “I want to stop the bad guys. Cyber attacks are growing each day and attacks are coming in to your IT systems. So, we need qualified professionals to defend the homeland and defend the homeland infrastructure.”
Sanders learned how to be one of those qualified professionals while a student at Hennepin Tech in Brooklyn Park. He credits the school with helping him win a spot on the Cisco Live Dream Team and with giving his career a boost.
“Hennepin Tech has definitely given me that edge,” said Sanders. “Without Hennepin Tech, I don’t think I would have had the key knowledge.”
Sanders will go to San Diego to work with industry professionals and network with them. It is a hands-on experience that allows participates to practicing the techniques, technology, and skills they are learning.
But back at Hennepin Tech, instructors say Sanders inspired other students with his knowledge and passion for cyber security.
“He wasn’t just vested in his own success, he was a collaborative team member,” said Joan Bernard, Nyphen’s former instructor. “He cared about the peers that he coached and mentored. It really brought the entire class’s knowledge to a different level.”
The Cisco Live Conference starts on June 9.
