Hennepin Tech Plant Sale Runs May 11-13
Hennepin Technical College is hosting its spring plant sale from May 11-13.
Students in the college’s landscaping, horticulture and greenhouse program grow a large variety of plants for the sale.
“We have a lot to offer — I had my biggest classes — they’ve been climbing for a few years but this has been my biggest class ever,” said Deb Kvamme, faculty at the college.
The sale offers annuals, perennials, vegetables and hanging basket flower arrangements.
Students have been “working hard, it’s been a long winter as everybody knows,” Kvamme said. “Hopefully everybody will be ready to get some plants for their gardens.”
This year, closures on Brooklyn Boulevard may complicate driving to the college.
Kvamme said that detour signage and GPS directions should help driver’s navigate their way to the sale.
“It’s spring, and this is what we do best,” she said. “I’m confident that people will be pleased with what we have to offer, and just remember it’s student grown, they’re learning and if there’s an imperfection, that’s how you learn, right?”
After 23 years at the college, Kvamme plans to retire this year. She called the decision to move on “bittersweet.”
“It’s a very small community of nurturing-type people, and I will miss that,” she said. “And of course growing is what I do, and that’s what I’ll miss the most.”
