Hennepin Tech Partners with North Memorial on New Job Training Program
A new partnership between Hennepin Technical College and North Memorial Health is connecting students with hands-on work opportunities.
HTC Works is a workforce development program that gives students an opportunity to learn as a paid apprentice.
“The idea is that they’ll get a sustainable wage, but not only that sustainable wage, but also full sets of benefits so that, the idea is they’ll be fully supported throughout their college and their academic training opportunities,” said Jason Jones, program coordinator at Hennepin Tech.
North Memorial Health has partnered with Hennepin Tech on the program, offering career opportunities for students in the IT field while they earn a degree or certificate.

Officials at North Memorial say the program has helped with the hiring process.
“Now, I turn to Hennepin Tech and ask, ‘Which of your students will be a good fit?’ Instead of sorting through hundreds of applications, I get strong, pre-vetted candidates,” said Jodi Heurung, manager of collaboration and access management at North Memorial.
Hennepin Tech hopes to continue expanding the program, offering more healthcare roles.
“A lot of our students that don’t fall in that IT area end up falling in the health care area and they want to get into health sciences and get their CNA programming, and then figure out from there, where can they move to next,” Jones said.
There’s also opportunities to expand in advanced manufacturing, according to Jones.
“We’ve got a pretty robust program with our automation robotics, with our machining program, with our welding program, and this would be an opportunity to kind of get into those spaces as well,” he said.
Hennepin Tech is hosting an open house from 3-6 p.m. on April 24. To RSVP, visit their website.
