Hennepin County Hires Emotional Support Dog
The Hennepin County Attorney will enlist the help of a new employee in the new year. Only this employee will have four legs.
County Attorney Mike Freeman said his office will join the growing number of county attorneys to have an emotional support animal on staff.
“Other county attorney offices, including Ramsey County, have got support dogs,” said Freeman. “We find that they’re particularly useful in juvenile cases. When kids don’t want to be witnesses they don’t want to be there. As you can see holding this dog has calmed me down.”
Barrett is a four-month-old goldendoodle who has been in training since November. The dog is currently assimilating to the surroundings in the Hennepin County Government Center and will begin full-time duties working with staff, victims and witnesses in about 12 months.
