Hackenmueller’s Meat Market Raises Thousands of Dollars for Those in Need
Hackenmueller’s Meat Market in downtown Robbinsdale is giving back to the community that keeps it going. So far, community donations have raised more than $3,400 to buy groceries for those in need.
The system is simple — cashiers ask customers if they’d like to add $5, $10 or $20 to their purchase. If customers choose to donate, that money goes to an organization that shops for those who need it.
Ande St. Michael took over the business last April with co-owner Dustan Posch. He said he wanted to continue to make the business a place that takes care of its neighbors.
“We’re the next generation of Hackenmueller’s. It’s our job to preserve the legacy that was built here, but also grow in a way that serves the community that lives here now,” St. Michael said.
St. Michael didn’t name the partner organization, but said it’s a mutual aid effort. The community’s response, totaling $3,421.67 after five weeks of donations, has been overwhelming in a good way, St. Michael said.
The market is sharing weekly total updates on its Facebook page.
