Governor Signs Hands-Free Bill
Governor Tim Walz signed legislation making it illegal to hold a cellphone up to your ear while driving. The new law takes effect August 1. Minnesota already bans texting, emailing and web browsing while driving.
The new hands-free law will carry a $50 fine for the first violation and $275 after that. The law does allow for hands-free calling through the use of bluetooth connections. It also allows drivers to use GPS or audio features on your phone, but you can’t tap or scroll on your phone while driving.
