Golden Valley Swears In New Council Member
The Golden Valley City Council swore in its newest member this week.
Sophia Ginis took her seat on the council on Tuesday, June 6.
In May, the council appointed her to the seat previously held by Kimberly Sanberg.
Sanberg resigned from the council with plans to move abroad.
“I was interested in being on the council because I not only care about today, but I care about what our city looks like in 30 years,” Ginis said. “That means coming into this appointment and thinking of the stewardship of the city. What do we need to do today so we can make good decisions in the future. That we don’t burden future council members.”
Ginis recently served on the Golden Valley Planning Commission. She is also director of community affairs for Metro Transit.
“Think about the things like housing choice and good management that really make it so that we can do more in the future and continue to bring the awesome services to our residents like amazing parks, awesome trails, good services and even things like streets that don’t have potholes, right?” Ginis said.
Her term ends Jan. 2, 2024.
